Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Awards.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second successive year.
The 27-year-old won four tournament victories – the most on tour – which included retaining the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Year of Consistency
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka played in a tour-best nine championship matches, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the entire year as the world number one, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Statistics
Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a 63-12 win-loss record, and collected a historic £11m in earnings.
She garnered almost 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Other WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking a extended hiatus after the birth of her daughter and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after capturing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
